What is the difference between a TV forecast and a WeatherPlanner forecast?

A TV forecast, like a forecast in the newspaper or elsewhere on the Internet, is a short-range forecast. The WeatherPlanner forecast is long range.

The long-range forecast focuses on only two types of weather events, intervals of temperature and intervals of precipitation. Through historical and scientific tracking process, WeatherPlanner can predict when an interval is expected to occur up to a year in advance.

A short-range forecast typically presents a detailed description of weather events that will occur in the next five days. A short-range forecast is much closer to the actual weather events therefore, more variable conditions - such as cloud cover, rain accumulation, or wind speed - can be reported.

Different technology

The main reason the two forecasts are so different is the scientific technology behind them. A short-range forecast is developed from analyzing many small details to predict the large-scale effects they will create. The WeatherPlanner forecast, based on a proprietary scientific process, focuses on the reactions and interactions of many large-scale features, which are then analyzed down to predict their effects on a smaller scale.

The overall result is that the short-range forecast offers a lot of specific information about the upcoming weather. The long-range forecast predicts intervals of precipitation and temperature for the next 12 months, making it more useful as a long-range planning tool.
